Curriculum Vitae

Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gertrude Lübbe-Wolff, LL.M., studied Law in Bielefeld and Freiburg as well as at Harvard Law School. In 1980, she earned her doctorate in Freiburg. In 1987, she completed her post-doctoral studies in the fields of Public Law, Philosophy of Law, and Modern Constitutional Theory. Prof. Lübbe-Wolff has been working several years as Director of City Administration (Leader of the Environmental Agency) for the City of Bielefeld and turned down a position from the University of Frankfurt. Since 1992, she is Director of the Public Law Department at the University of Bielefeld. From 2002 to 2014, Professor Lübbe-Wolff was a judge on the German Federal Constitutional Court.

For her academic achievements, Gertrude Lübbe-Wolff has been recognized with the Leibniz-Prize from the German Research Society as well as the Hegel-Prize from the City of Stuttgart. Gertrude Lübbe-Wolff is a member of the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and Humanities, the Honourable Society of the Middle Temple (honorary bencher), and the Argentinean Association for Justice (honorary member).

From October 2017 to March 2018 Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Gertrude Lübbe-Wollf was Fellow at the Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study in the Humanities “Law as Culture”.

Research Project

Zusammenhänge von Recht, Moral und Verhaltenstraditionen am Beispiel der Korruptionsbekämpfung in Europa

Ein großer Teil der EU-Mitgliedstaaten ist hochgradig korruptionsbelastet. Das stellt die EU vor besondere Herausforderungen, zumal ihre Einwirkungsmöglichkeiten auf die inneren Angelegenheiten der Mitgliedstaaten in der Phase vor einem Beitritt erheblich größer sind als danach. Im Rahmen des Forschungsprojekts soll untersucht werden, wie die EU sich diesen Herausforderungen stellt, auf welche spezifischen Schwierigkeiten sie dabei in ihrer Eigenschaft als supranationaler Verbund stößt, von welchen Annahmen über Zusammenhänge von Recht, Moral und Verhaltenstraditionen sie dabei ausgeht und ob diese Annahmen realistisch sind.
