Young Forum

The Young Forum creates a space for post-docs from different disciplines to enter into exchange and interdisciplinary discussion on key issues and foundations of normative-legal orders through regular luncheon talks. Law, as part of culture, can only be understood within the respective historical, philosophical, political, economic, social and aesthetic contexts. Only if these are taken into consideration, can pre-conditions, validity conditions and effects of law be critically reflected on, as is necessary given the increasing juridification of many areas of life and social spheres. In the course of globalization, new means of forming norms and enforcing law on the national and supra-national level require keeping foreign laws and legal cultures in constant view, whereas the increasing religious and cultural diversity requires a continuous rebalancing of the relationship between state and religious law. Legal research thus requires knowledge of the diverse foundations of law and its different guises, while research into other disciplines within the humanities tasked with investigating issues of normativity only attains the requisite relation to norms when observing positive law and its different sub-disciplines.

Through luncheon talks held several times a semester Thursdays from 12:30 to 1:45 pm, post-doctoral academics from the faculties of law and philosophy have the opportunity to discuss their research on questions concerning the foundations of normative-legal orders together with post-doc Fellows at the Center “Law as Culture” and to enter into interdisciplinary exchange.
