International Conference: Droit et Culture en Transition

The Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study in the Humanities "Law as Culture" is pleased to announce a conference that will address key questions concerning the relationship between law and culture in processes of transition based on the example of recent developments in Maghreb societies. Particularly, the object is to see under which legal-cultural conditions “a very young democracy such as Tunisia” (translated from a speech by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier on January 24, 2015 at the University “Al-Manar”) analytically grasps and politically tackles the current problems and conflicts.

The international conference is a cooperative event between the Festival Mediterraneo della Laicità (Pescara), the Laboratory for Ontology (Labont, Turin), the Observatoire Tunisien de la Transition Démoratique (OTTD, Tunis) and the Käte Hamburger Center for Advanced Study in the Humanities “Law as Culture” and will take place in an exceptional venue, namely the seat of the Académie Tunisienne des Sciences, des Lettres et des Arts “Beit al-Hikma” in Tunis.

For further information please note the invitation (pdf).

A film contribution on the conference is now available in our media center.
