Nina Dethloff (Bonn): Eröffnung des Kollegjahres „Im Namen der Kultur“

Since its founding, the Käte Hamburger Center in Bonn has clearly dedicated itself to its aim of “researching law in the process of globalization from the perspective of the humanities” under the programmatic title “Law as Culture”. Over the past years, the four thematic pillars law and religion, the localization of law and competing normative orders within the multidimensional process of globalization, the fanning out of legal-cultural fields of tension and the many faces of legal representation in literature, film and architecture were studied in this context. In the upcoming research year, we wish to bring together the research insights gained under the title: “Law as Culture or: In the ‘name’ of culture?” with the question in mind which validity claims are connected to the invocation of “culture” and which consequences they have for a universalistically oriented conception of law.

The opening of the research year “Law as Culture or: In the ‘name’ of culture?” by Prof. Dr. Nina Dethloff will be followed by a lecture by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Werner Gephart entitled From Natural Law to Cultural Law? On the issue of culture as a new source of validity for normative order.
